I missed this meme when it was around a few weeks ago - probably because I was offline for two weeks whilst moving house. I eventually saw it on
mrs_muggle’s LJ.
The game is as follows - I give the last sentence or couple of sentences from five of my favourite books. Your task - to identify the books.
These are all books I own and love, not necessarily my favourite books though, so much as my favourite endings. (Especially numbers 1 and 5.)
1. And only one thing really troubled him, sitting there - the melancholy craving in his heart - because the sun was like enchantment on his face and on the clouds and on the golden birch leaves, and the wind’s rustle was so gentle, and the yew tree green so dark, and the sickle of a moon pale in the sky. He might wish and wish and never get it - the beauty and the loving in the world. From the fabulous Forsyte Saga - book two - To Let, by John Galsworthy. Guessed by
widget_alley 2. And then I turned from the gate and got in the car and knew without doubt that I would be back.
3. The breeze gained vigour and curled about the chamber joyfully, like a child at play. In its niche beneath the Virgin, the flame went out.
Another really quick one from
Junediamanti this time. The King's Grey Mare by Rosemary Hawley Jarmen. Did I make them too easy?
4. “Funny,” she said, “when you look at it for a little it’s really quite a nice face, isn’t it?” -
Junediamanti again. The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey. I have all her books, but this is my especial favourite.
5. “Wait for me, new, frightened soul. And though the world should reel to a puny death, and the wolves are appointed our godfathers, I will not fail you, ever.” Recognised almost immediately by
mrs_muggle. Of course. No surprises there!
Happy hunting.
