I only update three times a year so get while the gettin's good

I don't know why I bother to update because I usually say things like "well nothing new here but I thought I'd post anyway." In fact, I almost opened up with that very statement. Instead, I'm going to bore you by listing all my fabulous finds from this past week. I bought a black suede pair of peep-toe oxfords with a fabulous cuban heel. Yea. I needed a more casual pair of shoes for house dresses. I also received a small bag of red and blue OPA tokens (think hard about your history). Something really worthless I bought was the society pages out of the Easter Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer from 1944 but it had some fabulous ads for ladies clothing. I got a white dress for free from a 93 year old lady who did a beautiful smocking job around the shoulders and back. She also gave me the sash she used to wear with it along with three pairs of gloves and a silver Whiting and Davis metal mesh handbag. I bought a blue and silver brooch today along with four Life magazines from 1942. Let's see.....got another gold metal mesh Whiting and Davis from Mamma, a pin from the same, and she gave me an art deco compact that is very small but very cute and very 20's or 30's. FAB!!! Mamma also gave me the bracelet and necklace that Pappap gave her the Christmas they got engaged (1948) and she bought me a gold sweetheart bracelet that has an expandable metal band with a gold heart locket with the Army emblem on it. Happy Birthday to me. All in all, I think I made out pretty well and I'm very pleased. There is a blue dress on ebay that is ending tomorrow and hopefully by the end of the week it will be in MY possession. This coming weekend is a reenactment in Gettysburg at Ike's farm. I'm going and I may not have any new clothes to wear but who there is going to know that? I'm probably wearing a dress I wore to Reading and another green dress that will hopefully have a belt by then. If not, I'm squeezing my fat gut into the white dress I got this weekend. The woman's name is Katie Houser. She was born in 1913, got married in 1942, was a teacher, and a brilliant seamstress. She also only ever weighed 108 pounds at her heaviest. I outweigh her now so the waist is a little tight but nothing a quick move of a snap won't fix. The only problem right now is hats. I'm severely lacking in appropriate head-wear. Oh well. I will just have to be completely uncouth and go without a hat if I'm forced to wear the white dress. Sad but necessary. I will look better without a hat than with a hat that doesn't match. I do have gloves though, thank goodness, and a bag that will be passable.

On another note, Penn State lost miserably to Notre Dame. Anyone else see that farce of a game? I was happy that Notre Dame won; I think because I was in a room full of hardcore PSU fans and I like to route for whomever appears to be the underdog or who, in this case, has the fewest fans.

Went to church today and was annoyed by Mamma's sunday school class as always. There is one guy especially who always makes me feel like I have to speak up and anyone who knows me will tell you that I have to be either really pissed or feel very strongly about something before I speak in front of others. He is really annoying. I had a few other things to say besides what I did but I kept them to myself.

So to sum it all up: Next week will be vintage-tabulous, in the next few days I'll have a brilliant new pair of shoes, possibly a new dress, will be working at a real job, and the new Facebook is stalkertastic.

The end.
