Alrighty. Since I can't sleep due to drinking caffeinated tea too late while studying, and the fact that I came up with this brilliant post while I was brushing my teeth a minute ago, I'm gonna do my catch-up post now.
So, I subscribe to this guy,
thepeteris, on youtube, because he's a very funny nerdfighter/vlogger that I kinda sorta met at a nerdfighter gathering here in San Diego. So he posted this video (below) explaining why he hadn't made a video in a while. He explained that he was looking for a job, and that the searching process took more time than expected.

Of course, he coyly declared that he wasn't going to tell his gentle viewers where he's going to work. In real life, that makes sense. Too much personal info out there in the ether that is the interwebs can lead to serious badness. But I, of course, am always up for a challenge.
Here's what happened:
And the challenge was on.
I had a slight advantage because I'd met him in real life, so I knew a little bit of personal information that made this quite a bit easier.
1) I knew his real first name, although that is also given away by his username.
2) I knew he was older than me
3) And most importantly, I knew where he went to college, which is essential for narrowing down Facebook stalking searches.
So I searched for Peters in the his college's network, but I realized the abundance of Peters there are in SD. So had to spend a lot of time sifting. So I started to search in specific class years, which helped slightly. I ended up having to look at people's actual profiles to get a closer look. Eventually, I started pulling up his other internet profiles, like on listography and Last.fm, to cross-reference interests and music. In hindsight, his profile picture was pretty vague, so I couldn't rely on visual identification, and it was a good thing that I did this cross-referencing. In the end, I found a profile that fit what I was looking for, with a major common link, the band Of Montreal. Well, that and StarKidPotter, which is a nerdfighter/Harry Potter fan given. So I added him with a personal note to let him know it was me, and I totally succeeded.
And you too, can become a crazy good stalker one day! *thumbs up*

P.S.: The one thing I haven't figured out: where he works. I'm neither that skilled nor that creepy.
