So, we went to Thespian Conference this past weekend, and it was soooo awesome, best conference ever!!!
I was chosen to stage manage the first act of the All-state show, which basically meant I sold my soul for the weekend, but it was quite a rewarding theatrical experience for me. I worked my ass off all weekend, didn't sleep, but I never once had to yell at any of the performers and we all worked perfectly together to produce by far the better act for the show. After the performance, the lighting designer and the head stage manager, completely unprompted and without needing to, said that I was one of the best stage managers they had ever worked with. I had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend the experience to anyone going to conference in the future. This gave me hope that not every show has to involve breakdowns and disrespectful actors and going through hell to get to the final product. My techs were awesomely amazing and knew way more about their individual areas of expertise than I did, by far, but they accepted that I'm a little slow and they were wonderful (albeit a little scary sometimes). Except my asm, who was a complete ditz and waste of my time, but it worked cause my production assistant did what the asm was supposed to do in addition to her own work, so she's amazing. Every single performer from our act thanked me for my work this weekend and I love them all dearly and know that they will all go far in the professional world with the attitude they had. I have never smiled so much during the process of a show, it was amazing.
