...of my 21st year of living. Let's have a year in review then shall we? We shall.
April 2005: I have wonderful friends who tried so hard to plan and carry out a surprise party for me. And it worked all the way until I was in the car headed to the party and was handed "Directions to Katie's Surprise Party". Otherwise, a wonderful night was had by all ON my birthday (amazing since it was a Tuesday) at Olive Garden w/ the most delicious black tie cheesecake (remember, guys in tuxes are hot! this makes the cake taste so much better!!) and our hilarious waitress ("Oki Diki doki!") who catered to us magnificently. (I hope we all tipped her well that night!) Not to mention dancing in the restaurant and pictures and...yeah. P.S. NO alcohol was consumed by the birthday girl. 21 just means you're allowed, not required.
May 2005: Finished my first semester as a religion major w/ 3 huge papers and two all-nighters. Watched some of my best friends ever graduate and venture out onto their new lives in Chicago, Boston, Mississippi, New York etc etc etc. Saw what my graduation would look like a year later since I was now a senior! (Sad that both my high school and college graduations will not take place on campus...OCHS at UGA's Stegman Colliseum and Samford at BJCC)
June 2005: Got to go on Carpenters for Christ again though living at home which kinda ruined it. Met Don's wife of 3 weeks who is a hoot and worked on his crew for the three days I was able to be there. Started summer classes of my own free will w/ the best roommate ever. Had the best first date on the worst day ever with my first ever boyfriend. Ahh, summer romance.
July 2005: Lived thru the second hurricane in one year at Samford. Finished up Life and Letters of Paul w/ Holloway (very fun class, highly reccommended) and began Fitness Walking (very easy class, never met on Friday) Saw my best friend in high school get married to a guy I'd never met.
August 2005: Got a taste of real life when I worked full-time for 2 weeks as a sub while Vaughan got married. Loved it. Finished class, had a midnight walk on the beach, saw one of my best friends leave for London, got dumped, started my senior year. Lived thru third hurricane in 11 months (Ivan, Dennis, Katrina/Rita)
September 2005: Went home two weekends in a row, including one for directory pictures at church...I like those pictures!!
October 2005: Had dreams spawned from Oreos that were interesting to say the least. Planned the most magnificent sightseeing trip to DC and loved every minute of it. Spent exactly 24 hours at home and yet saw a million people.
November 2005: Turned in the first copy of my thesis (wow was that rough compared to what I just finished!) Went home for a 10 day Thanksgiving break due to just the right classes being cancelled. Went to my first regular season SEC game (UGA vs. Kentucky--GO DAWGS!) and though wearing 5 layers because it was freezing, I got SUNBURNED! Donated 10 inches to Locks for Love and suprised everyone with amazingly short haircut.
December 2005: Turned in my "final" draft of my thesis, changed rooms, greeted my roomie at the airport, went home and slept.
January 2006: Celebrated New Year's in ATL w/ Caitlin and other Redcoats as they were there for Georgia's Sugar Bowl (loss) and even got to march w/ them in the Nokia Sugar Bowl parade! Saw the peach drop live and in person!! Moved in for Jan term (drove myself back across I-20!) (Christian Spirituality w/ Sansom....wonderful!!!) and had many nights of Monopoly, cooking spaghetti, and late night talks. Took the GRE and got the exact score I thought I needed. Still don't know why I thought I needed that. Celebrated w/ TCBY and a nap. Applied to UGA's Master's of Education program.
February 2006: Saw snow!!! Worked on revising my thesis. Revamped my schedule to cut everything not necessary for graduation and ended up w/ 9 hours of bliss. :) No V-Day date but got to help Shylan get ready for hers (though w/ that red dress, no makeup artist is ever needed to make her shine!)
March 2006: Finished thesis!!! Went home for spring break and had a blast (see previous entries)
April 2006: Relaxed after the stress of a thesis. Went crazy in dance class. Randomly drove home after only telling one person (see, you are special to me!) I was headed that way and surprised a handful of others at the G-Day game.
So...lots of unexpectednes, both good and bad in a year. I hate hurricanes, tornados, and all other aspects of bad weather including thunderstorms. Sunshine-y days are the best for being outside on the quad in 70+ degree weather. Gentle rains are nice as well for walks or dancing. Cold weather is ok if there is snow. My friends are great and always will be. It is best to have friends that time or space (or both) separates you but you are still there for each other no matter what. So, 22, what will you be like? Will you be my last birthday in the Central time zone? Will I win the lottery and thus pay off Samford loans very quickly? Come football season, will I say "War Eagle" or "Go Dawgs"? Can spring twitterpation (your word, Sarah!) be more than such? And dare I ask if it will stay more than such? What will happen on that trip to Wyoming for the Thornton wedding? So many question, so few answers....and a variety of time. Happy Birthday to me. :)
