Bossa N Roses. Why? Why was this album created? Why is it particularly popular in South America? (Googling turned up several other Americans saying things like "uh, I heard this crazy cover album in Chile...") People are weird ( Read more... )

Oh wow--it's a whole series!

I felt the same way when I heard what could only be a Dolly Parton cover of "Stairway to Heaven" on an obscure public radio station on the Mendocino coast once. I had to track it down and confirm that such a thing existed, and indeed, it is everything you could ever want in a Dolly Parton cover of "Stairway to Heaven," whatever that may be.

Other musical oddities I encountered yesterday (as chronicled on Twitter): just heard ave maria performed on theramin. the hell, music channel? now mozart's magic flute overture is being done a cappella. bizarre.

There were more, and I remain baffled.

Heeeee! I can't believe you actually tracked this down. That cover photo is so heinous, I'm starting to think it's kinda awesome. I'm actually tempted to plonk some $$ down and get a few of the songs (hey, I totally dug that version of "Sweet Child of Mine"!)

as I sat in a bar in the middle of nowhere, Peru

This is the awesomest part of all! We were in the middle of the DEEPEST CANYON IN THE WORLD. OK, second deepest. Why is there Gun 'n' Roses there? Why are the songs Bossa-Nova-fied? WHY?

You know what's really odd? Just yesterday, I was doing my monthly "try to knock a few of the artist-less songs off the list" thing that I do to my music collection, and I came across an artist-less version of Live and Let Die, and after listening to samples on Amazon, I decided it was Anekka from the Bossa N Roses album. And I never put two and two together that THIS WAS THE GnR cover album. *g* Anyway, I have that mp3 if you want it.
