The Ballad of Ianto Jones

Jul 17, 2010 08:00

So every night since Tuesday I have been watching an episode of Torchwood: Children of Earth on my iPod, this being the first time that I have watched the series. Last night's episode was Day Four. And that episode left me the most affected I have ever been from an episode of television.

The death of Ianto Jones had me in an emotional wreck. It left me crying, heartbroken. Heartbroken for Ianto, who had always followed Jack into everything, heartbroken for Jack who finally let his true feelings show when he lost the person most dear to him and heartbroken for Gwen, who lost one of the people she had grown to know and love over her time at Torchwood. The way it happened left me stunned. I couldn't form words.

It was one piece of fantastic, moving television, which kudos to Russell T Davies has to be given. The whole episode was spine-chilling and beautiful. Ianto's death was a piece of magic that is to be treasured. I am so sad we have lost him, but the way it was done was completely fitting for the character. The music by Ben Foster highlighted the moment so beautifully that it was left with you long after it had finished.

Acknowledgement also has to go to Gareth David-Lloyd and John Barrowman for their superb acting which made me care that much more for the characters. They embodied Ianto and Jack and brought them to life for three seasons. Just two amazing men in two amazingly written roles.

This is one tv show that is forever at the top of my list. Children of Earth has just confirmed why I have always been a Torchwood and Captain Jack Harkness fan.

We will miss you Ianto.
