Oh hello, weeklong parade of mindfuck dreams! Piss off.
I have gotten to the point where my body has trained itself to wake up every time I finish a dream. I fall back asleep, but having woken up for a few moments right at the end makes it so, when I actually wake up, I remember two and three dreams per night.
And they seem to have a lot of recurring themes. Marriage, time travel, adventure with odd pieces of domesticity woven in, and Josh. All of them have involved Josh.
Last night's was particularly blatant with the time travel stuff, and after I finished writing it down in the book where I keep notes of what indie films my brain treats me to every night, that was when I picked up on it. The other dreams had been real sneaky, throwing time travel into the plot in tiny ways.
It's crazy long, so I'm putting it under a cut.
In the first scene, there's a huge gathering of people like me, who can travel all through time. I wander through the building where we're meeting, which looks like a grand, old school with dark wood walls and high, coffered ceilings. I meet an absurdly tall guy with short brown hair and a very cat-ate-the-canary grin and, after chatting for a while, decide to go home with him. When we get out to the parking lo, at some point, he just vanishes into thin air. I scramble to regain my footing, because the lot is slushy/icy and because he had been carrying me piggyback. I slip, and this causes an avalanche in the distance. This pisses me off way more than tall hookup guy suddenly vanishing.
The next few scenes are all very jumbled and probably out of order. There are several scenes with me popping through time and inadvertently meeting younger versions of people I know.
I meet an Andrew (Christina's friend) too young to have even met me, but I don't realize this and confuse him. I meet an Eric (from high school) who is old enough to remember me (I'm guessing 2004 or 2005) and I steal his laptop because it is extremely important that I videochat with someone right then (either my boss or Josh, not certain).
Presumably, the reason I had to steal his laptop instead of using my own is that, in a scene that happened earlier (possibly first thing), I am somewhere with my parents and terrorists take over the place. I run outside and hide wih a lot of small children they chose to spare. I am old enough that they would have killed me, but I escape, having to leave behind all of my things.
Another one of the scenes where I meet a younger version of someone I know: I am in a huge, indoor park. There's a tree house that has to be at least 3 stories high. And on the path leading up and around the tree trunk are myself and Brynna, from approximately 2002, judging by my haircut. Before I even notice them, however, I run into a 12 year old Josh, who has his hair cut like a Marine. The strangest part is that he recognizes me, and runs to hug me. At the time, though, I don't find this weird at all, and gladly hug him right back. He tries to get me to take him with him (on "one of my advenures", so apparently I've met him other times and he knows I'm a time traveler) and at first it seems like a good idea, but before we leave the building, I decide that I can't kidnap him.
In the last scene, I arrive at a house, exhausted from the time jump, and go inside. Seth, Christina, and Josh (and apparently me, when I'm in town and time) live in this house. Once I'm inside, Josh sets about helping me get ready for bed, and we curl up together in our bed and go to sleep.
In the morning, I hear him brushing his teeth in the bathroom, which has two large sinks opposite each other. I walk in, still groggy, and hug him from behind, resting my chin on his shoulder and smiling. I glance at the toothbrush cup and say, "One of the bad things about being a time traveler, you're never sure where you left your toothbrush."
Josh smiles and pulls out my Pittsburgh toothbrush that Danielle gave me when I went away to college. I start to brush at the same sink, but we keep bumping elbows and laughing at each other, so I move to the other sink, where Seth is already brushing his teeth. I finish brushing, rinse, put my toothbrush back, and kiss Josh.
I'm super out of practice decoding my brain's scrambled messages, so I know that it's important that I met one high school friend and one college friend, I know the Pitt toothbrush has something to do with Danielle, and I know that not being able to brush my teeth next to Josh without bumping into him means something, but I have no idea whaaaaaaaaaaaat.
