Come along, Pond!

Today is a sad day. Exactly one year ago, Panic(!) at the Disco announced their divorce. ;___;

Anyhoo, updates! Lots has happened in the month since I last updated, not least that I got a new job! I applied for 3 Assistant Librarian jobs in Independent schools across London, got 2 interviews and was offered 1 job - not bad for my first proper attempt at job hunting in many years! (My last two jobs have been in the same organisation, so it didn't seem like proper job hunting at the time.) As of 1st September I will be working at Westminster fricking School! They have assembly in Westminster Abbey! And the gym is also in the Abbey! How weird is that? There's a secret entrance from the school into the abbey so we can sneak in that way - it's like something out of a story book! I'm really excited about working there, and the librarian has also only just started working there and wants to change loads of stuff so that should be really interesting. Woo! I will have to learn a whole new vocabulary though - being an old school they have weird words for everything. I really hope that brothers really are called Major and Minor in public schools. That would please me greatly.

So, what else. On 19th June I went to see Green Day at Wembley Stadium with chaletian and klo_the_hobbit and OH MY GOD IT WAS AWESOME! No gig will ever top that. For three hours I was 14 again and I was dancing like an absolute knob, as was everyone around me. I fell properly in love with Billie Joe all over again, tiny punk pixie that he is, and sang along to all the songs. They did loads of stuff off Dookie and Insomniac and Tre Cool sang Dominated Love Slave while Billie Joe played the drums! I love that song and I love watching non-drummers drum - they always flail their arms around so much! I can't even do a proper review, it'll all just be squee. I am so happy we went. Also, I made friends with two drunk 40 year old men, but it was OK because they were just really happy to be there too and wanted to dance. I can deal with that - they weren't being weird or sleazy at all. Well OK, a bit, but in an alright way. Walking out of Wembley was amusing because there were just thousands and thousands of people all flooding in the same direction. I do feel for the people of Wembley when stuff is on there, though.

The week after that Chloe and I went to see Gaslight Anthem in Brixton and they were also brilliant. We were nearly late due to watching the last Doctor Who (OMG I LOVED IT) but the buses were kind to us. We ended up in seating, I think due to the venue change, but the atmosphere up there was still really good - everyone was well into the gig and every so often someone would get up to do a bit of illegal dancing and see how long they could stay standing before being told to sit down by the stewards. There was a guy in front of us who was really into it and clapping along to everything, but he had seriously no rhythm - it was sort of adorable to watch him enthusiastically clapping to his own beat. ♥ I love Gaslight and we have already bought tickets to see them in... October? IDK, some time in the autumn. The bassist is still lithe and still looks like he should be in a 50s greaser movie. Nice. Getting home took slightly longer than usual because while we were in there Ghana won some football (oh Ghana ;___;) and the main road up from Lambeth town hall was full of dancing Ghanians. I couldn't get too grumpy though, even though I was exhausted (we'd been out all day with the Brownies before the gig) as they were so freaking happy.

We had the Maths Dept party in the library last week and the last stragglers (and by extension me and my manager) didn't leave till gone 11.30pm! On a school night! I was not prepared for that and Thursday was a tired day. However Thursday evening was excellent because Chloe and I went to the mini festival that is the Serpentine Sessions in Hyde Park and saw lots of folky goodness: Alessi, Fanfarlo, Peggy Sue and Laura Marling! And another band that we only saw the end of who I liked but can't remember. Fanfarlo's lead singer was wearing shorts, a shirt, a cardigan and a bow tie and I wanted to put him in my pocket and keep him. Chloe probably wanted to do other things to him.

Other things I have been doing are spending a very fun day in London with yan_tan_tether and sunsetmog and introducing them to the joy of Johnny Flynn - Melanie was charmed by him and is now in love, which is how it should be - going shopping for work clothes and coming home with a dress I can't really crouch down in properly (although I can kneel and crawl in it) so I don't know if it's really work suitable, rewatching all of Doctor Who season 5 on Sunday, and finally starting to watch Dexter S3. I always forget how much I love that series - it's so stylish! Also Leverage is back and that makes me happy in my face. Things I have not been doing: reading fic. I have read approximately 4 big bangs! I need to get on that, seriously.

Hmm, I have been to a lot of gigs recently. I'm OK with that. Mt Desolation at the Lexington tomorrow! I will be in the same little room as a Mumford! Or a Son, I suppose. Details.
