Well, now that I've slept for about 14 hours or so and regained some consciousness, I just wanted to say that Dance Marathon was one of the hardest, but most rewarding experiences of my life.
For those of you that don't know, Dance Marathon is a program that raises money for the Mott's Children's Hospital at UM and for Royal Oak Beaumont for summer programs and other things that insurance can't cover. We sponsor families with children with disabilities and through the year we hang out with the kids, go to their activities, and get to know them really well. Then after raising money all year, we have the marathon. The Marathon lasts 30 hours: 10am Saturday - 4pm Sunday and you aren't allowed to sit or obviously sleep for that entire time.
It was really hard come 5 am Sunday, but after having Lloyd Carr come give us pep talks and Jake Long and Mike Hart stretch us, it made it a little easier. :) lol But it really was so much fun. They had alot of cool activities for us going on and performances. It's really touching to see how many groups on campus are willing to give up time (even at like 4 am) to come perform for us and keep us pumped up. It really means alot to see these people come support us.
It was such a great experience...at the end when one of the kids that has benefited from Marathon for the past 10 years came up and played the xylophone for us, that did it. I just started crying and realized that my 30 hours of pain is nothing compared to the pain these families and children have gone through in their lives. It made all of it totally worth it. I am so proud to say I did it and I can't wait to be a part of it for the next 4 years I'm here...
Also, in total we raised $351, 060.07 for the kids. :) :)
Pictures are up on Facebook for any who care to see.
