Music and such

Cousin called me on Monday to tell me that the Goo Goo Dolls were going to be in town, on Wednesday, and that there were in fact still tickets available, and would I like to go? I jumped on that, since I've been trying to see them for 4 years now. Also, we have not hung out much since she's been back from Texas, and I thought it would be a good chance to see her.

She picked me up tonight, and we drove downtown to see the band. The openers were...I feel bad judging, because she could sing, and they played their instruments well, and if it had been something I'd heard on the radio, it would have been a "this is kind of fun." But since I was so stoked for the Dolls, I was so not feeling it. But they kept it pretty brief, and then we got down to the main show, after like a 45 minute intermission.

I'd forgotten how much I really loved those guys. Their music is so much fun, and they were really great with the audience, and I've been obsessed for so many years that there were probably 3 songs the whole concert I didn't know. And they know how to write their lyrics. I don't know what it is about them overall, but there's just something in their music that just cuts right into me, and I love it. Eight years of being a fan, and they can still give me chills. Also, hearing them was one of those experiences like when you find that CD you listened to every time you were driving in your friend's car in high school. You hear the song, and it's an emotions dump. They weren't bad emotions, but it just brought back such vivid memories. I could see my little self sitting on the floor, at too-freaking-early in the morning, in front of the little grey boombox, listening to Gutterflower with Kris. Or blaring it when I cleaned. It just paints such vivid pictures, I love it. And all this from a band I only really got into because of fanfiction. I love how these things happen.

So, anyway, concert was fantastic. We went out after to try and catch them at the stage door to try and get things signed, but they snuck onto the bus, without even acknowledging those of us who'd sat out there for more than half an hour, so that was a bust. I'd have been thrilled with even a wave, even if they didn't want to sign stuff, but what can you do. It was still fantastic, and they were selling autographed set lists after the show, so I sort of got my signature either way. On the whole, the night was just really fun, and now I'm listening to old CDs, and having mostly pleasant flashbacks to high-school. I should go to bed, so I can get shit done tomorrow, but while I'm not hyped up or anything, I'm still quite awake. But we'll see how things go, I'll probably run out of steam soon either way.

Bike ride with Andy on Friday, and Jane Austin TV date with Em later that day. Good times, and I'm trying hard to reemerge into the netsphere. And I had something else to add, but my coherent typing is already going, and I fear giving it much more time will turn me into an unintelligible mess, so.
