fruits of labor

A mostly good day, though it did not start off so well.

Was going out for the afternoon, and wanted to get some mint to bring along with me, for purposes of tea. So I went out to the plants; there were a few stains on the concrete, but was not paying any attention at all, and headed away over to start picking leaves. Dad came out to see what I was doing, and in looking down the steps, saw the liberal amounts of blood going all the way down the steps and onto the driveway, and puddling by the garage.

We both freaked out, and he went hurrying into the garage, coming out a few minutes later to say that the neighbor dog was laying in our garage, and bleeding very badly. At this point, I stayed rooted to the steps, having a little mini panic attack, while dad went to tell the neighbors.

I finally went inside, told mom what had happened, and we went back outside. The neighbor came and got his dog, and we figured out that it was a very bad cut, but he hadn't gotten hit by a car or anything. They left, and so did I. Found out later from them that the dog had cut his leg on something metal (he's always running around the neighborhood and woods), and it was pretty much the equivalent of getting his wrist cut. If dad hadn't found him when he did, he might have died. They took him to the vet and got him stitched up, and hopefully he's going to be just fine.

I apparently do not handle blood well anymore. I was still a little freaked out more than a half hour later. It still throws me a little bit to think of it. I also spent a good five minutes washing my feet, since I'd gone out barefoot, and I couldn't be sure I hadn't stepped in any. There wasn't anything actually on my skin, but I wasn't taking chances. Apparently, I can only handle blood when it's my own.

So that was the horror story for the morning. The rest of the day was just fine. Spent a very nice afternoon with a friend, one I have not gotten to spend a decent amount of time with in far too long. We watched avitar (which I had yet to see, and wanted to, and *greatly* enjoyed,) and made a very nice tea out of my newly growing apple mint. It was awesome, though I wish I'd stayed longer, since the plans I had for the evening with other time-absent friends got canceled shortly after I got home and started prepping for them.

The downtime at home for the evening was nice though, since my body is performing a mutiny, and the painkillers have yet to kick in. Which they need to do soon, because we're getting up early to go to the farmer's market, and I'd like to be able to sleep. But I think someone might have turned off the AC, which is not conducive to sleep, or a cheerful or pleasant state of mind. Thank you family, really.

Off to make the attempt anyway. I might come home with another herb plant, let's just wait and see. Someone might have created a monster.
