2012: Year in Review

Jan 03, 2013 19:23

I'll do a couple of these. Not just because I always do, but because this year especially there was a lot that happened and didn't get posted here. If there was ever a year I wanted to keep a record of, it's definitely this one.

The fill-in-the-blanks recap is always the easiest. So....here:

1. What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
* Had a dude sleep over (what!? yes.)
* Bought a book the day it came out
* "Terminated" therapy
* Joined a community group through church

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I spent 2011 in demolition, and devoted 2012 to rebuilding. And boy did I rebuild - and continue to do so.
I probably won't make any official resolutions, but you never know...

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My "sister" Camille finally had a Kroy, after a long year (yes, year) of pregnancy and heartbreak.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope

5. What countries did you visit?
I hit the Bahamas again. I didn't make it to any new states last year, because I was too busy flying to Orlando. 3 times. Oy.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
* A legitimate relationship
* Yoga classes
* A resolution of the ongoing allergy issue
* Health Insurance.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
* February 19 and March 17, for important and challenging (and lovely!) conversation with Jon, Joel, Chris, Cary, Joel again, Tracy, and John (and our mutual friend Alcohol) that ended up springboarding some major changes in my life.
* May 4: The day I was freed from an unhealthy day job
* May 5: A college-esque party that ended with some unexpected alone time with a (very nice) virtual stranger.
* July 10-13, which count as one day because I barely slept, spending the entire time at the theatre in preparation for my proudest professional moment to date: The opening of the summer show
* A few days in August, spent with a dude that seemed to have potential
* November 22, just for being a really wonderful Thanksgiving with old (Bethany), less old (Cary) and brand new (Gretch) friends

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
* Reaching the level of emotional and psychological health I'd found by the time I ended therapy
...followed closely by
* Pop Dies
and
* Taking the chance to leave my job without knowing when I'd find a new one

9. What was your biggest failure?
* I don't really know... I've faltered here and there, for sure, but I can't consider them failures because I always got back up...
I guess it's possible I could have been better with finances?

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I think I could say my allergies leveled up from "issue" to "illness" by the end of the year. Things got pretty scary a few times...

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The majority of my money went to two things. And while Pop Dies was a pretty good investment, I think the freedom to leave an unhealthy work situation is the best thing I could have possibly spent it on.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
* Cary
* Gretch
* Will
* B&B
* Jeff J

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
* The roommate and her dude
* The former boss
* Captain Loudface

14. Where did most of your money go?
See 11 :)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
* Pop Dies
* Insurance
* The Dude (ill-advised)
* Hot Skirt Guy (slightly-less-ill-advised?)

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
* Trouble Like What by Chris Frank
* Also, any and everything by Bieber

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier than I can possibly express
b) thinner or fatter? Probably a little heavier, but...meh
c) richer or poorer? Poorer

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Demanding what I deserve

Y'know what - that's my resolution this year. Look at that! A plot twist!

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Have asthma attacks, worry about money, and hope for a thing I see instead of being patient for what's still to come

20. How did you spend Christmas?
I spent it with my Brother and his family, skyping with the other brother/niece, and then with the parents. There was lots of sugar, and just a little allergy/asthma concern. It was a really beautiful - if loud (because of the 4-year-old) - day. Highlight: helping Everett and Victoria play hide and seek via skype

21. Did you fall in love in 2012?
Ahhhh...no. But I found a lot of love. Especially for myself. And that's good enough, I'd say.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
The Good Wife and, more recently, Downton Abbey

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don't.

24. What was the best book you read?
Daring Greatly

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
* PTXmas
* Chris Frank
* fun.
* "Gonna Get Over You" by Sara Barellies

26. What did you want and get?
* More happiness and more love
* Rest
* A relationshiplet. Baby steps, right?

27. What did you want and not get?
* An actual relationship
* Better health

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Seven Psychopaths

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 29, and played games and drank beer with some of the awesomest people I've ever known

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I'll give you two:
* Real closure on a thing that's been nagging me for more than a year
and
* The consistent ability to breathe

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Trendy and professional. As always.

32. What kept you sane?
* Honest talks with BFFs
* Silence
* Reading new plays
* Leaving the old job
* Sleep

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I wish I could be interesting and original, but....
Colin Farrell.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Four More Years

35. Who did you miss?
My family, too many of whom are too far away

36. Who was the best new person you met?
* Gretch, the new roommate

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
"There Is Nothing Wrong With Me"

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"I am a good person,
I'm an attractive person,
I am a talented person;
Grant me Grace"
-Climbing Uphill, from The Last Five Years

health, best friends, everything, books, friends, tv, dating, music, career, therapy, there is nothing wrong with you, new york, work, family, cary, movies, birthday!
