I really doubt if the rest of the series can live up to the first two. They have come up with some amazing ancestors between them. In some ways I found Dame Judi's more interesting as I knew qute a bit about what Josh Widdicombe's ancestors had been up to, but nothing at all about the Danish history that her ancestors had been involved in.

My dad's family were all farmers, agricultural labourers and market gardeners and one of his American relatives traced them back to the 17th century, largely because they never left the vicinity of the Isle of Ely and the Cambridgeshire fens. I'm quite surprised we haven't got webbed feet!

My maternal grandmother's family kept no records at all as far as I can tell. I have photographs of all my great-grandparents except her parents. I know a bit about her father as my grandmother and great-aunt always used to complain about him, but not only did Grandma never mention her mother to me, she never mentioned her to my mother either! This is particularly strange as she lived with us. What I did find out quite recently was that Grandma had registered her mother's death, which may have meant her mother's illness and death were too upsetting to talk about. That's what I'm going with anyway.
