I've got a bit behind with the meme. My excuse is I had a minor mouth operation on Thursday, the details of which I will spare you as they make people wince. My dental hygienist, who had something similar done, said it was the most painful things that had ever happened to her, and while I wouldn't go that far, it certainly hurt a lot and means I am on an accidental yoghurt and soup diet. As ever the NHS were wonderful, particularly as I didn't have that long to wait for a non-essential op, which surprised me a lot, but apparently Maxillary-Facial at our local hospital don't have a big waiting list, so I presume people are still hesitating about going back to the dentist. Particular thanks to my dental surgeon and the lovely discharge nurse Pierluigi who told me all about the delights of his home province of Calabria. He hasn't been able to go home since September so I thanked him profusely for being here. Bologna is lovely too, apparently! I'm not sure if it was the after-effects of the local anaesthetic or his Italian good looks which made me not realise it was slightly surreal to be exchanging memories of Italy while being discharged from hospital and barely able to speak. I did fell quite groggy on Friday morning but then I realised that I hadn't had any caffeine for 24 hours. One sniff of coffee and I felt better!
In other news my Pilates teacher is moving to Cornwall, which a few years ago would have been a disaster but now we're just going to carry on on Zoom. I hope Lisa's broadband is up to it but as one of my classmates is up in Birmingham I can't see any reason why we shouldn't have a lesson coming from Cornwall for people in south London and Birmingham!
Back to the meme.
6. What laundry detergent do you use?
Fairy capsules. If they stop doing them I am in trouble as my skin does not like other types of detergent.
7. When you were younger, were you ever in a relationship with someone you now realize was way too old for you?
Only in my imagination.
8. How old were you the first time you traveled alone?
Depends what is meant by alone. Without family members I was 14 or 15 when I went on a school exchange to Germany but I was 18 when I travelled entirely alone to the States. It was the first time I flew as well so it was all a bit nerve-wracking, particularly as I was going to stay with my aunt and uncle who I had never met.
9. What's the longest hotel stay you've ever had?
Probably about 10 days when we went to Madeira.
10. What temperature do you keep your thermostat set to during the winter?
It comes on at 20C morning and evening but we do quite often put it up in the evening. In theory J can do it from his phone but we usually use the thermostat.
11. Have you ever had surgery?
See above! I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was 8 but my most dramatic dash to the operating theatre was because of acute appendicitis when I was 7. They got my appendix out just in time before it ruptured. Thank you NHS again.
12. When you were growing up did your family move around a lot?
Not really. We always lived in the same south London borough but we moved from the flat I first remember living in to a house in 1965 and my parents stayed there until they died.
13. What browser do you use?
Firefox. I am resisting all attempts by my new computer to get me to use Edge. My old computer didn't like Chrome but I may install that at some point on the new one.
14. Do you remember what you wore on your very first day of school?
I was 4 and it was rather a long time ago so I would be very surprised if I did.
The rest of the June questions are behind the cut.
15. What was the last letter that you sent out by mail?
16. What do you think the world will be like in 100 years?
17. Where do you hang your towel to dry after showering?
18. Last time you swam in a pool?
19. Type of music you dislike most?
20. How many people have you kissed in a car?
21. Do you enjoy getting manicures/pedicures?
22. Did you often read for fun when you were a kid?
23. Do you have any dietary restrictions?
24. Are you more of a visual learner or an auditory learner?
25. Which of your good habits has made the biggest positive difference in your life?
26. What is your favorite tea brand?
27. What's a hobby you've been thinking about starting?
28. If I stepped into your shower, what is the first item I would notice?
