Happy New Year everybody!
I could make a resolution that I will post more here this year than last but that is really in the lap of the gods, or rather my mother. Dealing with a very frail but very opinionated elderly lady, who has her own views on what is good for her and what care she needs, takes up pretty much my last ounce of mental energy, but I will try and do better as I do miss LJ.
Prompted by the recent Russian server drama (I have no plans to leave LJ) I have been looking at some old entries that I might keep a copy of somewhere other than Dreamwidth and LJ Archive and it's been a fascinating experience. Who was that person who used to witter on about nothing, review films she'd been to see, talk about TV, and generally write reams of nonsense? The valuable things are the personal memories like playing a strange game of my 7-year-old nephew's invention where he was Aragon and I was a combination of Dementor and Black Rider. He's now 20, 6'2" tall and 6'2" wide! Then there's the entry about Niece R in a performance of "The Rocky Horror Show" which I'd completely forgotten about and detailed descriptions of exhibitions I'd been to see, which I barely remember. Interspersed with all of this are my thoughts on episodes of Angel and silly fannish memes that made me wonder when fandom stopped being fun. Perhaps it still is on Tumblr but that really isn't my thing.
Not sure where I'm going with this, except possibly discovering that I haven't lost my ability to witter on, but I think I'm just saying that LJ entries have a value that you don't realise at the time and I'm a little sad that I don't have a record of the last few years in the same way I do of my early years on here.
Anyway, let's hope that LJ has a few more years left in it yet and best wishes to all for 2017.
