Olive I. Steinke
May 4, 1923 - June 5, 2006

Olive Irene Steinke, 83, of Corby Blvd., South Bend, passed away following an illness at 8:25 p.m. Monday, June 5th, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

She was born May 4th, 1923, in Nashville, Indiana, to William and Mary Ann (McLary) Mathis, as the youngest of 11 children. On December 20th, 1947, as Olive Irene Mathis, she married Theodore O. Steinke. He died December 8th, 1993.

Olive is survived by her children, Stephen (Mary) Steinke of Oakland, California, Craig (Pichaya) Steinke of Hayward, California, Don Steinke of Granger, Indiana, Mary Ann (Richard) Moore of Mishawaka and Keith Steinke of South Bend; along with eight grandchildren, Katherine, Sally, Lauren, Alex, Nick, Nate, Jamie and Caitie. Also surviving is a great-granddaughter, McKenzie. Her sister, Mary Jane Weisman of San Diego, California, survives with a brother, Dale Mathis of Nashville, Indiana.

Olive was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of South Bend, serving on the Altar Guild. She also attended Indiana University, Bloomington.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, and also one hour prior to the services in the church on Thursday. Burial will follow the services Thursday at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

A special thanks has been extended to Dr. John L. Jenkins and staff for the kindness shown to Olive and her family through her illness.
