So here I am, typing away in my room in halls! It feels wierd, yet good at the same time to finally have arrived here!In second year, my year abroad felt as if it was a whole age away, and here it is!
My room is quite spacious, and I have a big fridge/freezer in my room too, as there's not enough space in the communal kitchen for us to store all our food. I've made my room feel quite homely by putting up photos from home, and seeing my things on shelves. The campus (which I have great views of from my room!) is lovely and green, and there aren't any eyesore-type buildings either! It has a warm and friendly atmosphere about it, and it already feels as if I've made the right choice coming here.: ).
I think there's a couple of people in my corridor, but they seem to have locked themselves away in their rooms, for one reason or another. However, I am determined to break out of my shell and make some new friends, something which I managed to start to achieve today, so I'm very proud of myself!
I'm getting used to the Québecois accent - it's quite nasal, and it seems to have a North American twang to it!. The staff and students I've met on campus have been really friendly and helpful, which is even more reassuring for this settling-in period!
I have a French language proficiency test tomorrow morning, but I'm not too worried about it, as I am quite confident with what I know of French to do the best I can do!By the end of this week, I should know my timetable, so I need to decide what cultural/literature/history modules I want to do soon!Lectures start next week, which I'm really looking forward to, especially as I have a renewed motivation to do better prepare myself for lectures, and really work hard at vastly improving my French overall.
Obviously I am missing friends and family back home, but I know that I need to keep myself busy and make some friends over here, and that I can cope quite well under these sort of circumstances. Plus, when I look back on these experiences, my time here would have seemed so short!
I'm not sure these next few months will bring, but from what I've heard from other students who came here, it'll be quite something!
