(no subject)
I was reading my book (The Shining, Stephen King), just a minute ago and a poster fell off my wall and scared the shit out of me. Before I turned round to look at what the noise was I thought a bird had got in my room! A bird! In my room with the window and door closed! Silly scary book. I carried on reading for a bit but I was getting freaked out so I turned my computer on instead. I never used to get freaked out by scary books, it's weird.
It's flipping cold here. Even more so than it was at home, I'm sure. Which is why I've got the door closed and the radiator on full blast. It makes my room nice and toasty at least, even if I have to put my dressing gown on evey time I want to go to the bathroom or kitchen. At least I don't have to go outside much this month. I handed in my Population Ecology assignment this morning. It was awful, but at least I'd done something. The exam for it is next Tuesday, so I guess I'll just have to revise a lot before then. It's going better than my dissertation at least, which I still haven't properly started. I've written all the section titles in a Word document and played with the font and whatnot.
When we got back to Aber we discovered that some idiot had turned the fuse switch off for our fridge and freezer. So they has both defrosted and everything had gone off. Martyn had already cleared up all the food when we got there, but I went over it with kitchen spray and cleaned up all the stains. It still stinks though, we don't know what to do about that. It meant that Drew and I had a lot less food that we thought we'd have when we got back. And it was a Sunday so the only place open to buy food from would've been Spar, which is quite expensive. So I tried to make some bread myself, which went horribly wrong, I assume because the yeast was so old it didn't rise.
The fish at least are OK. Neptune's got really fat! Not big, he just has a fat tummy. It's quite funny, but makes him look a little mean. Ulysses is about the same as he was when we left. We're planning on getting another one to replace Pickle, but not until we're sure these ones are properly settled in. I've given up and decided to buy some cleaning equipment for the tank myself, rather than waiting for someone to give me some as a present.
