The scene: I am standing in the QFC at the North End of Broadway, with two gallons of vinegar in my shopping cart. A nice gentleman ushers me into the checkout line in front of him, as I only have a few items.
Me: Thanks a bunch.
Gentleman: So, are you doing science experiments?
Me: No, I'm pickling twenty pounds of carrots.
pause. The guy looks both impressed and confused.
Me: No, I'm serious.
Gentleman: Ma'am, never in my life have I heard someone say that as a joke.
