I am thankful that the Feasting Table Construction went basically without mishap, if you don't count having to re-pre-drill one of the screw holes and having the 2x4's for support not perfectly lined up as a result as a mishap.
I am thankful that despite my fears, my
incredibly complicated turkey protocol once again produced a perfect, delicious turkey, perfectly cooked in all its sections.
I am thankful for my mother-in-law, who came early and cleaned the whole house like four times as I ran around like a damn fool and messed it up again cooking.
I am thankful for Linda, my father-in-law's wife, who loaded the dishwasher with all the regular dishes and handwashed all the serving dishes after dinner, despite going through a frickin' open lung biopsy ten days ago. I tried, briefly, to stop her. She is unstoppable.
I am thankful for my brother,
daspatrick, who not only helped to clear the table while I was trapped in a post-prandial fog but who also, without being asked, took it upon himself to box up all the leftovers in tupperware. Which he did perfectly -- he put every single leftover thing in the tupperware that was the perfect size for it. Seriously, that's pretty god damned amazing when you think about it, particularly since it was after his SECOND Thanksgiving Dinner of the day.
I am thankful for ten years with the beloved of my heart, my husband
llachglin. Ten years ago yesterday, we were running back to the car in the rain after our first date, stopping in sheltered doorways in Belltown to smooch and laugh with the joy of each other.
I am thankful, above all, that I can feed my family to excess in my home, that I am safe in body and in soul, and that I am surrounded by such wonderful, wonderful people, so diverse in interests and in spirit, who have come together to create this incredible community. Thank you all.
