She Who Must Be . . .

. . . well, you know the rest. Her Furry Eminence is ill. She scared the hell out of me this weekend being ill.

In true cat fashion, she concealed how ill she was until after McMonigle's closed on Saturday and then decided to revel in it. She wasn't eating, when she did, she urfed, violently, everywhere. There is evidence in the sewing room that this was happening before Saturday, but being concealed.

Okay, last year she had a nervous stomach causing this same issue and we went in and it was all solved with a shot and some pampering. I really wasn't worried about her until Sunday morning when I watched her barf her breakfast and follow it up five minutes later with barfing water. EEEEEK! Cats are so touchy on dehydrating.

5:30 am on a Sunday morning and there I was at the grocery store getting 10 mg Pepcid and high end, nothing in them but meat, turkey cold cuts. Then I tried for 3 hours to get a quarter of a tab down the cat long enough to do some good. Problem was, she was taking the pill but couldn't keep it down. I even ground it and mixed it with a tiny bit of minced meat and got that down the cat, but no go. right back up.

I admit, I was totally freaked. She was clingy all day and basically I never got more than 10 feet away from her. The worst part was she was too miserable to sleep. I was fussing if I should take her to the emergency vet-but it is so expensive and she has a great vet of her own.

Took her into the vets on Monday morning and she didn't even object to having her temperature taken, very uncharacteristic. She had xrays looking for pins, needles and blockages. Nothing. They did blood work and gave her a settle your stomach shot and an anti-nausea shot and then tried to tidy up the back end.

I was thrilled when she felt good enough to snarl at the vet tech with the clippers! (Well, he did offend the dignity of the cat after all!) That was the most Emmaline like she had been in two days! The vet tech wasn't in any danger, they have these cool blue falconer's gloves for dealing with opinionated felines like Emmaline. She bites and she means it!

She was better almost immediately, slept for hours and then got up and demanded some "tea" and a nibble of what I was eating. I did hug her for it and give her minced turkey bird. Which she gobbled down and kept. She even set about laundering the cat. But it is Wednesday and she isn't 100% yet.

Got the preliminary labs back yesterday. Something is wrong with her pancreas. Elevated, no particulars, I have to talk to the vet for that.

Fingers and whiskers crossed, I can't loose her! I won't loose her and I am more than a little bit freaked about it.
