Disturbing development: we've picked up a Borg sphere on long-range sensors. Apparently, One inadvertantly contacted them (even though we'd disabled his primary transceiver, his Borg technology bypassed it).
_tuvok_'s warnings about what would happen should the Collective become aware of what is essentially a 29th century drone are uppermost in my mind.

As I have never met this One I cannot be sure, but I know that when an individualized Borg first becomes individual the loneliness and the desire to connect to the rest of the Collective is overwhelming. If the Collective had not actually rejected us for being contaminated by individuality we would have rejoined it when we first became individuals. One other individualized Borg and a number of non-Borg friends may not have been enough for One if he did not truly understand the danger of losing his individuality.
It is a tragedy of our existence that the two things an individualized Borg most wants-- to preserve his individuality, and to enjoy the closeness and guidance of a Collective-- are almost always at war with each other. We have been able to stabilize because there are many of us, but I fear for Seven of Nine and for One. They must be so lonely. I have lived aboard a Starfleet vessel and become friends with those who work there, and while it is better than being a mindless drone it is still a lonely life, with no other minds to touch.
My hopes are with you, Captain. Please be safe.
