I had another conversation with a priest today about Lent, fasting, giving up things... Sometimes the question arises in me: Am I doing enough? Am I sacrificing enough? Would God want me to sacrifice more?
The priest said the important thing is love. Love for God, and love for our neighbor. All those little things we do, a little fasting maybe - they can be very helpful, but the important thing is the love we feel. That we do it out of love.
I guess it's the same for other things too. If we do something because we think we "have to", it loses much of its goodness. The love we feel while doing something is more important that what we are doing. In the long run, what will remain is love.
