Election

This is going to be a very short post because I have crazy amounts of homework to do as I was in Calgary this weekend.

However, I need to express my confusion this election -- not about how I want to vote, but how I should vote. I'm in a close riding (last by-election, which I forgot about on election day, the liberal won by 151 votes over the ( Read more... )

In this instance, I would vote strategically. I am generally an advocate of the "vote with your heart" idea, as in, vote for who you think is right. HOWEVER.

If the Conservatives are close to being booted out, and the party that might oust them is closer than they are to your values, I would say it is in your better interest to vote strategically. Unfortunately, in your riding it looks like if you vote with your heart, less of your values will be represented (Conservative) than if you vote strategically (Liberal).

That said, if you vote NDP and a lot of other people do too, it would certainly send a message. However, I don't think the message will be strong enough to get rid of the blue unless the NDP were an incredibly close third.

I live in Jack Layton's riding but I'm voting Liberal, mainly because I really like our Liberal candidate and from that standpoint think my own riding would be represented better through him. I'm still waffling on which party I like better, but when it comes down to local representation I like Lang over Layton. It took me up until last week to figure this out, though.

This election is basically unnecessary, but hopefully it turns out better for the left wing. Good luck :)

I did. I'm not sure how much good it did. I can't believe how deflated and distrustful of the entire ridiculous fiasco right now.
