Weekend of FGOTM

Oct 01, 2012 09:30

So it’s the first working day of the month and I’m supposed to be doing sales figures. I’ve already sorted out some claim stats for The Boss; and it’s not even 9:00 yet.

I’m so not awake.

Weekend of Crazy was awesome fun even if totally insane at points.

At first it seemed so simple. Scotland holds FGOTM; which is advertised a couple of months in advance. Mark didn’t want to go; however Andy and Kat did. Birmingham is cunningly geographic and lies between Newbury and Glasgow.

So it seems perfectly feasible to pick me up on their way up. We arrange crash space at Chez Hazel and Thomas and all is funky.

Except neither Kat nor I managed to get the Friday off. Never mind declare Andy “I am The Crazy Driver” Owen, we can come up to Birmingham on Friday, crash over and then continue.

So Friday saw me pootling on WoW with half an ear out for the door. First to arrive was Mr Quennell; and then, a mere 20 minutes later than they’d anticipated Kat, Andy, Stephen and Vicky arrived. We all troop out to Nandos and eat chicken and then Vicky and Mark Q vanish to a Premier Inn. Mark F vanishes upstairs to bed and the rest of us decide to start watching Avenger and chat. I crashed at 12:30 and goodness knows when the others did.

We get up at 5:00 and I feed Kat coffee whilst Andy does a good impression of a sleeping bag monster; then Vicky and Mark Q return and we all pile into the people carrier. It is decided that we’ll stop for breakfast once past Manchester and lo we trundle up the M6 a lot. Breakfast is achieved at some point and we continue through hills and dales, discovering how geographically challenged Vicky is; until she fell asleep on Mark.

We managed to arrive at the venue before anyone - including locals - and spent a few minutes doing the “are we at the right place. Who has a local’s phone number?” method of lurking; when Adam turned up and we assembled downstairs.

The venue was a pub with Irn Bru. Food looked nice but slightly pricey for my budget so Bjorn, Andy and I ended up going to a chippy recommended by Rob for being Cheap and Good. And yes, it was cheap (£2.95 for haddock and chips!) and was possibly the best fish and chips I’ve had. Downstairs was a classic band space and had enough chairs and tables to make a really good space that could be dressed for the occasion and apparently the automatic lighting in the gents assumed that they only needed light to aim and not to arrive at the urinals.

Glasgow based game I spent mainly sitting on Zephyr; however there was a lot of discussion about the demon problem; May spent some time making people with bits of plot talk to each other and Tinker came up with the plan of “at some point someone’s going to make a deal with a demon. We may as well ensure we know who, what and why - so let’s get someone to strike a deal with said demon. There were a lot of away missions it seemed which folks were enjoying and all in all it was a very busy looking game. May also acquired a new apprentice called Savage. Apparently at some point Tinker blew herself up with paradox using fate - which amused her cabal no end.

After a break for lunch (see above regarding fish and chips) the room was redressed and we IC moved to Edinburgh. There I discovered that the previous game had moved from “Dawnie has had a dream about something that’s in five shards that we should try to locate” to “and now the only one missing is the Thyrsus one and we reckon it’s in the Shadow.” So May grabbed Solomon and Savage; assembled some Arrow and we set out along with Dee to see if we could locate said item.

Stepping out of the church we saw flocks of birds heading off to a location and we decided to follow the hint that the nice ST had given us. We found a large tree on the outskirts of Edinburgh surrounded by 5 vehicles, a load of guys with guns and at least 7 mages all of at least gnosis 3 and a mastery. The shadow squad could see in addition whilst the tree had branches shaped into the life sigil and what looked like a portal; it also had 4 rank three spirits that looked like angels of death; and Dee extrapolated that there was a triple master Scion of God sitting past the portal with the quest item.

Oops. So the AA had a bit of a conflab and decided that at that moment in time they didn’t have the fire power and had too many non-combatants. They had already called up Doc and he’d turned up and made the same assessment. Unfortunately the fun of Chinese whispers meant that Henderson had the impression that we were about to start a war, and the South had basically come to cause issues in his city. So by the time May called him he was a bit miffed; however May very firmly said “no we’re not, we’ve got to *this * point and the Arrow are having a bit of an argument about rank. She then got a message via James from Scoochard to add into the “no, retreat” bit and eventually we retreated in good order.”

We returned and May discovered Elias and promptly sat on his lap and got quizzed about who the father was as he’d noticed the extra brains in her body. I then half listened to people talking about the Seers making an offer regarding the fifth piece.

Apparently though Visete, Cyanide and Dawnie decided to go get it themselves and almost got an ocima in the face. Not sure what on earth happened there. Apparently Tinker and James also had an argument with their hierarch hats on about who was responsible for stuff.

Siren decided to do a tarot reading for May; and just as May told Siren her question was “will I ever make it up with Tinker” Tinker hobbled up. So not only did Siren do a tarot reading that went “Tinker is not the problem”; May and Tinker finally talked and May discovered that it was pretty much down to James not realising that “girlfriend sobbing at you but not saying no does not equal a yes.” We’re not sure they’ll ever be friends; but they are now at least talking.

We then trundled back to Hazel and Thomas’s where we got fed stew and hot chocolate. Eventually we went to bed and everyone slept.

Morning was filled with bacon and sausages; and then soup plus more chatting. We eventually collected Vicky and Mark from Adam’s, hit a Tesco and then drove from Glasgow to Birmingham with no breaks.

So all in all, an awesome weekend but I am now sleepy.
