Varied & Sundry ~ a jolly assortment of things :-)

A quote I read whilst perusing blogs:

God is not my crutch. He is my defibrillator.

A poem I stumbled upon:

Run and work, the law demands
But gives me neither feet nor hands.
A better song the Gospel sings,
It bids me fly, and gives me wings.
--John Bunyan

While perusing blogs tonight...
...I came across this blog (http://castlesands.blogspot.com/), and some interesting, thought-provoking posts.

One that caught my attention was a post entitled Feeling vs. Experiencing. Just a taste of the post: "Even if we cannot feel the love of God, we can certainly experience His love through His providence, guidance, promises and the family of the church of Christ, and so on... To finish, let me say that it is a good thing if we feel the love of God. That is a God-given blessing. But, it is an even greater thing if we experience the love of God, no matter what we may be feeling at the time."

In another post, this one entitled How good was the preacher?, he talks a bit about how we sometimes go home talking about how good a preacher was on a Sunday morning. He quotes from the Westminster Larger Catechism regarding the preacher's responsibility, and then (and this was the part that interested me more, as it was something I had not really contemplated before) the listener's responsibility. I'll quote the last part here:"Q. 160. What is required of those that hear the word preached?

A. It is required of those that hear the word preached, that they attend upon it with diligence, preparation, and prayer; examine what they hear by the scriptures; receive the truth with faith, love, meekness, and readiness of mind, as the word of God; meditate, and confer of it; hide it in their hearts, and bring forth the fruit of it in their lives."
