I had the most horrific moment this afternoon. I was so distraught and frazzled. It went a little something like this:
My favorite flip flip broke right as I was walking down the west mall. I was late to work and somewhat frantically trying to mail a package when it happened. The cloth part between my big toe and that other one right next to it, the part that holds the top strap to the sole, was so frayed that it snapped when I habitually stumbled on a raised tile.
Now it must be stressed that these are my very favorite and most durable flip flops. I've had them for two years and wear them almost 24/7. I mean, we're talking with skirts, shorts, pants, scarves and coats, even naked! I mean, these shoes were so molded to my feet that they were practically an extension of my being.
Anyhow, I'm off topic about the series of events that led to my newest emotional investment. So, post-snap. I engineered a clasp with only a single paper clip. I crafted it to be omega shaped and it hooked the cloth to the sole (the bottom prongs were stuck in.) Anyway, it was so very MacGyver of me. I felt very much the part. But it was definitely a less than desirable situation. Understand it was really rather unpleasant since the paperclip was protruding into my foot in a very uncomfortable way.
I proceeded to the post office since it was close, and then walked from the post office to Tyler's and bought myself a new pair of black flip flops. Granted, they're not as wonderful as my recently retired pair, but they have potential and I'm willing to give them a chance. I'm open to the possibility that they're wonderful and will satiate my needs. I'm crossing my fingers, anyway.
