Day Dream Beliver

So, one of the challenges over at writerverse right now is to write your dreams realized. I'm not sure that I've one exactly that, but I tried. I've got two different dreams here, and oh so typical really. Dreams of education and love.

Grad School Dreams

I just graduated from college. This is an amazing accomplishment for me, but I want more. I joked with my friends that the college of arts and letters (which is what my major is a part of) is the college of useless degrees. After all, what does one do with a degree in psychology, music, English or theater? Simply, you go to grad school. And that is what I am going to be doing. I got a late start on applications, but I got into a really good school. My Masters will be in Social Work.

SO, the point of this exercise is to write about our dreams. I already know that I’m going to get my masters in social work, but that’s not where my dream ends. Since I was a kid I’ve wanted to be a doctor. Like an M.D. doctor. Though, now that I’m no long a kid I’ve come to the realization that I don’t want to be an M.D. doctor, but a PhD doctor. And I know what it’s going to be in too.

After my masters I’m going to go to Pen State and get a PhD in Adult Development. Then, armed with my masters in social work and my PhD in adult development, I will set about creating social change. I will bring awareness to the prevalence of mental health disorders amongst the elderly and the lack of treatments available to them.

I’d like to point out that at no point in this dream was there the hope of making gobs of money. I gave up that dream when I decided to become a psych major.

Wedding Day Dreams

The sun is shining, the day is just starting and already it’s hot, but that’s the way it is in the dessert in the summer. The temple is beautiful, shining white and radiant and I’m going in with the love of my life. Later we are standing on the steps surrounded by friends and family as pictures are taken. I can’t stop smiling. This has been the day I’ve been dreaming about since I was eight. Pictures snapped of me and my new husband and my family. And later there will be cake and dancing and a party that involves good food and conversation. But right now it’s just the two of us standing by the roses, just like my parents on their special day, and the sun is shining and all is wonderful.
