More on my culturally enriching weekend in Austin...
Here's our beloved Unarmed Dreamer (right) on stage at the Vortex as Pelonia in Troades (www.vortexrep.org)
And a couple shots from Art Outside (www.artoutside.org) in the Enchanted Forest on Oltorf. Art AND music in the woods with 7Changling... Does it get any better than that?
And check out Jesse Cook. I got to see him at One World Theater, another great Austin Venue. (Thought of you, Eclectic Ant, with the incendiary combo of guitar and percussion...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0OAaD9LQEw Nietzsche said, "We have art that we may not perish from truth." A fitting sentiment for the weekend. I wept with the cast of Troades for the the countless tragedies of war, touched that the human spirit is capable of creating beautiful music and theater even from blood and tears...
Art Outside was a welcome emotional lift after Troades, whimsical, eccentric, eclectic sculpture, paintings, installations and live music among other things. A lively preview of Flipside possibilities....
The Jesse Cook concert was everything I expected and more, moving me to tears of joy and propelling me out of my seat to dance. I cared less for getting my new CD autographed afterwards than having a chance to thank another artist for reminding me that while I worry sometimes that being an artist is not important in the way I think of ending wars and feeding starving children, it is the beautiful dance of emotion, out of the dark shadows of despair and into the light of love and renewed hope that makes life worth living...
It's nice to be reminded that more than self-indulgence, art has the power to awaken, heal and inspire.
Heartfelt thanks to all my friends who keep me plugged in!
