good food day

Yesterday was a day of good food. We had the first 'bag lunch Friday' in my lab and there were five of us with our lunches and some other food to share. I brought olive tapenade with a baguette and some goat cheese with blackberry jelly. There were also two types of sushi there. Hopefully bag lunch Friday becomes a success. I like food and I like eating outside if it's not too hot. Then at dinnertime we had surprisingly good food - it was half an hour late but I forgive it since everything was made pretty well. I think our Friday dinner chef is going to do well for us.

Today I went to the farmer's market for the first time in a while and I ran into Dana and Mary and Steffie (sp?). It was actually their first time. I agreed with Dana that the farmers market was rather underwhelming, especially considering how everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas. I got some peaches and I'm going to try to dry them in the dehydrator Dacia is letting me borrow for the summer. I have to say, though, that the person selling the peaches was less than helpful. He didn't let me sample any even though I was going to buy quite a few and then when I said I'd buy them anyways he didn't give me advice on how ripe any of them were when I asked him to help me out on that. I thought people at farmers markers were supposed to be cool like that but I don't think I'm going to deal with those peach people anymore. On the subject of farmers markets, this thing about urban farming in Detroit was pretty cool. We should do that here, too. Maybe we would have bigger farmers markets...
