I´m in Oaxaca!!

Hello everyone, just want to let you know that I am still alive. I have been in Oaxaca for the past 9 or so days... I am much better at Spanish now than I was before, but of course since I haven´t taken Spanish since high school. Of course, my grammar has flown out the window now that I am actually talking to people. It is very hot during the day but during the evening I go down to the zocalo and it is super comfortable, and it´s like that´s where everyone is just chilling and doing their thing. I feel like there is always a concert or dance or something to watch whenever I go out. And the food here is amazing, they´ve got so many types of fruits and all these stands with food on the street. And my host mother cooks a lot of food, too, which is pretty sweet. Also, they drink hot and cold chocolate a bunch of the time so I am very happy about it.

I meet people totally randomly while I´m out in the zocalo. I clearly stand out as a foreigner and since I´m walking around by myself people just come up to me to talk. I have had one sketchy older guy talk to me, but most people have been about my age and pretty cool. I´ve learned a lot of cool things while down here. I realize that I have no idea what all the states in the Mexican republic are, but they know a lot of the ones in the US. Well, for sure they know California and Texas and many other places in the southwest - also New York. I feel like everyone down here has family or friends in Dallas. How funny.

I have had prickly pear juice many times so far at lunch, and every morning I get a different type of fruit, often pineapple or papaya or melon or ... well not mangoes, that´s more dessertish. Anyways, I´ve also tried many other new fruits as well. Yum. It is amazing that only a few days after I wrote in my LJ about how much I am in love with getting fresh orange juice I found out that my host mother makes it every morning for breakfast. I am in heaven. :-)
