Just got home about an hour ago from doing family stuff and celebrating my daughter's birthday.....she turned eight. My brother and I took Helen and one of her friends to see "Corpse Bride", then went to Build-a-Bear and Hot Topic. For dinner, we went to Souper Salad (Helen's choice), and my cousin Brandy and her daughter joined us. Which was great and all, because I'd not seen Brandy since our paternal grandfather's funeral, and she's really changed from the spoiled brat I had known her to occasionally be.
Overall, I think Helen had a great birthday....only thing I had an issue with is that Helen tends to want to show off and act silly when she's got a friend around, and that can sometimes be really embarassing or irritating. Especially when the friend starts acting up too, because it's one thing to get after Helen about something, but I'm never sure how to handle it when it's someone else's kid. So, methinks I'm going to have to have a talk with Helen about that, because I am not going to want to take her anywhere with a friend if this is going to be a problem.
