Mote Marine Laboratory's Smalltooth Sawfish Recovery Project was featured on Waterways TV (a local science channel down here in South Florida) a few years ago, and someone was finally able to post the videos on YouTube. I was one of the lucky interns featured in the video, and ended up going on to do my masters thesis on sawfish (smalltooth and largetooth) distribution and population dynamics. My time with Mote was incredible, and this was hands-down my favorite trip that we went on (the day after this video was shot, we caught a 16ft4in female sawfish, and a newborn sawfish!).

This 15ft female Great Hammerhead was captured off Boca Raton by a recreational fisherman and donated to Mote. Not only is she the largest captured on record, but she had a record-breaking 55 full-term pups inside of her, previously unheard of for the species. It was an incredible, yet heartbreaking, experience to be a part of the dissection team. (Warning, video features a dissection, so not for the faint of heart)...
