A Weekend for the Record Books

This weekend will go down in history as one of the craziest and most entertaining ones I've ever had in my life. Friday evening my best bud from school, Sumit, came into town for a visit. Shortly after he arrived, we hopped in the car with Justin (Shaddak) and drove up to Richmond (took us nearly an hour and a half due to heavy rains and stupid drivers) where we proceeded to go have some dinner. Afterwards, we went to downtown Richmond and stopped off at the apartment of one of the pharmacy students I work with, Mike. There we met up with Mike and 3 of his friends. We hung out there for a bit, had a beer or two, and then Justin, Sumit, and I left them to go down to the clubs where we went to Sin'e and found a fourth year pharmacy student, Bob, along with 4 of his friends. The eight of us hung out at the bar, had a few drinks, then walked down to the next stop, Tobacco Company, where we found another fourth year pharmacy student, Fadi, and one of his friends along with one of my classmate's girlfriends and her friends. Had another couple of drinks, then the 10 of us guys walked across the street to RichBrau where we ran into Mike and his friends again along with one of the guys' girlfriends. There we stayed and had ourselves a grand old time until the place closed at 1:30 AM and kicked us out. We piled into the street and chatted there on the sidewalk until about 2:30 AM. It was kind of sad saying goodbye to people I've known for years and may never see again after that night. Justin, Sumit, and I walked back to my car where we had to sit for a bit (I was too drunk to drive as of yet) and then we drove up to the dorms Sumit and I had lived in for 4 years. Discovering our ID cards still got us into the dorm, we went in and looked at our old floor and then went to the kitchen and swiped food (some poor sap is out a couple boxes of bagel bites). We got back in the car and drove all the way back to Newport News (rather interesting ride considering our state) and stopped at an IHOP to eat more substantial food. By the time we got back home and went to bed it was past 5 AM.

Saturday around 11 AM we woke up and told ourselves that we'd take it easy that evening. Ha, little did we know. We went and ate some dinner at about 8 PM at Chili's and then were debating what to do for the rest of the night. That's when we decided we'd go check out a new sports bar called Bailey's that was just added to the local mall. On the way there, I was calling up people on my cell phone contacts to see if anybody was available for hanging out. Got in touch with a girl I work with, Stacey, who was planning to go out that night with one of her best friends so I told her to meet us at Bailey's. Sumit and I got there around 10 PM and had a few drinks until the girls showed up then the 4 of us went down to Hampton to a club called SaddleRidge. Although being a country styled club, they played amazingly good music (primarily rock, with a few country songs intermixed....I had feared they would play only country which I can't stand). Stacey's friend, Jessica, wandered off to mingle with the crowds while Sumit, Stacey, and I just hung out and had a good time and some drinks. We stayed there until 1:30 AM when they closed. We walked the girls to their car, talked a bit, saw them off, then walked to our car and headed on back towards home, making a couple of random stops along the way. By the time we got back it was nearly 2:30 AM, we pulled out some snack foods and munched while watching some late night tv and talking about things....ended up going to sleep past 4 AM.

Woke up around noon today, we went out for some lunch, came back and sat around a bit before I saw him off at 3 PM. Took myself a nap then felt like calling up Kristie around 5 where we proceeded to talk for nearly an hour about anything and everything. It was nice to just talk to her for a bit. Probably end up having a friend or two over this evening for a little while and that will end this weekend. Fortunately I took tomorrow off as a vacation day to rest and recuperate. Of the 44 hours Sumit was here, we were out and about for right near 22 hours...pretty amazing for us. According to Sumit he thinks we've reached a turn around in our lives and he thinks things are starting to look up. For the first time ever, we went out and got very wasted two nights in a row, stayed at places until they closed, and wasn't sick the next day (except for being tired) from the alcohol. Plus the people we hung out with were all about us and couldn't get enough of our attention and hijinx. After some discussion, we determined that these past 11 months after graduation was spent recovering from the 4 rough years we spent in Richmond and now we've come to a point where we can really move on with our lives.

Apparently nice guys don't finish last all the time.
