Inspiration: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupid_and_Psyche Cupid is sent to make Psyche fall in love with some vile creature because Venus is jealous of her. After seeing her beauty Cupid accidentally jabs himself with his arrow and falls madly in love with her. Venus chucks a fit. Cupid stops doing his thing and the earth begins to die until Venus relents and lets him go after her.

Cupid whisks her off to marry her but she can not know his true form and he only comes to her at night. People convince Psyche that she has married a monster and they urge Psyche to conceal a knife and oil lamp in the bedchamber, to wait till her husband is asleep, and then to light the lamp and slay him at once if it is as they said. Psyche sadly follows their advice. In the light of the lamp Psyche recognizes the fair form on the bed as the god Cupid himself. However, she accidentally pricks herself with one of his arrows, and is consumed with desire for her husband. She starts to kiss him, but after a while, a drop of oil falls from her lamp onto Cupid's shoulder and wakes him. She watches him fly away, and she falls from the window to the ground, sick at heart.

Psyche is then set a bunch of impossible tasks by Venus to get Cupid back and is aided in completing them. Eventually Jupiter takes pity and gives her ambrosia so she can be with Cupid and she eventually makes up with her mother-in-law.

Summary: Erik floats the candle closer and holds the knife ready but instead of some awful serpent he finds Amoré, the mutant who makes people fall in love (by rubbing them if James is to be believed)

And a bonus pic because the statue is so well known
