If you've been here long enough you will have heard of my connection with the RSPCA and my love of animals.
My mum worked at the shelter in Newcastle when I was growing up and we spent a lot of time fostering kittens and puppies that were too young to be sold or needed rehabilitation. Sometimes it was heartbreaking when we couldn't save them but it was worth it to know that without the work we were doing none of them would have survived.
All my dogs have been from severe cruelty and neglect cases. Both Ruth and I volunteered at the Rutherford shelter. You can read Pip's story
here Just a warning though there are some pictures of the dogs when they came into the shelter and were so skinny you could see all their bones and had dreaded hair to the floor.
Anyway, as much as it has it's faults, the RSPCA does a huge amount of good work. All the funds come through fundraising and donations and in times of natural disasters they are stretched to the limit. They are not eligible for the disaster relief funding like charities that concentrate on people are.
The QLD floods destroyed one of their main shelters so they are trying to rebuild that so they can continue to care for animals.
The floods, both in QLD and NSW, left many animals homeless and injured. The cyclone in Northern Queensland has caused so much damage too.
We are so low on cash that we often can't afford our meds so we couldn't afford to donate cash ourselves but we made these bears and felted critters to try and help where we could. Almost two days work went into each bear (Ruth knit them all and I sewed them up, embroidered faces and felted the accessories.) and about 5 hours each for the felted critters. I hope people enjoy them and know that the money is going to a good cause.
So please bid or donate what you can.
If you can't afford to bid I will do drawbles for anyone that donates more than $5 to the RSPCA. Or if you donated to the Flood Relief fund for people I will draw for you too. Just show me your receipt.
