It's really bizzare, I decided to start looking up a few historical things about my suburb- my pride and joy, Peakhurst- and found some awesome old photos dating back to 1877!!! It's incredible, and yes I am aware I am a nerd.
Peakhurst Public School 1877
It's amazing seeing all of those little faces at school isn't it? I find it quite funny that I pick up the children for before and after school care from this exact school, so its crazy seeing what it looked like when it was first built! I just have trouble getting my head around that its still the exact same location... so rich in history... Just imagine all the children that have gone through this school in the past 130 years...so many lives, stories and histories.
Horse and cart 1890
This horse and cart was used by contrators Hannons & Fretus for H.M.C that was located on the corner of Forest and Stoney Creek Road. Wow, its incredible imagining that this is the main method of transport!!!
Peakhurst Public School 1900. Winner's of the All School Shoot.
Little kids with guns?!?! How scary is that!!! DOCS would be on to them for sure these days, haha. I was looking at the names of the children and the boy at the front on the very left, I think is the man who sold the land which my house is on, to Mum and Dad to build on in the early 70's. Mr bailey had a hell of a lot of land, and cause he was getting older he divided it up, and sold it. Funny when Mum and Dad got the land it was all bush everywhere, and only an old dusty road that was our street! Crazy to think that little boy, more than likely, is this man!
Methodist Church1910
One of the first Methodist Church's build is good ol' Peaky. Isn't it gorgeous??? Considering the time, they would have been a Catholic's worst nightmare!!! haha.
Bus 1920
Now is that a funky bus or what?!?! How cool is that, it drove between Peakhurst and Penshurst.- I honestly dont think it would have gone much further, even if you wanted it to! haha.
They are the main pictures I could get my hands on! I will be searching for more over the next few weeks, so stay tuned!!!
