Down By Two Men, And Yet...

So we played in Greenwood last night. We had nine players on the field most of the game, eight for a while as Lechelle (I think is how you spell her name...) was nursing her baby. The goals that went in were the big lob balls that Jessie's not good at (and I've sort of tried to plant the bug in her ear that we should work on those next practice, 'cause I made my poor dad do those with me for like an hour once, and still have those skills), or really lucky angles.

I played a pretty decent game, especially in the second half. I also got pushed all around the field. The ref was making weird-ass calls. Calling the simpler stuff while letting more serious stuff slide. Whatever.

We actually outplayed them, especially in the second half. I can't believe we only scored two goals. We had about fifteen minutes of play in which it was nothing but shots on their net, that just kept going wide or hitting posts or getting saved by dumb luck. Their keeper was not particularly good.

I saved a goal myself, possibly two if you count the run back I managed at the very end of the game. I got the ball away just in time to get the kick that was meant for it and go flying. I had a few tumbles in the game, and have some pretty bruising/scraping to show for it on my knees (both of them!) and my left elbow.

I also had some good aggressive runs up the field, moving the ball through three or four players before passing it off. It was pretty cool.

Good game, though. We played well, and had nothing to be ashamed of. The other team was scared in second half, which was awesome. And I really feel like I'm getting back into the game, though that just makes me want to play goal all the more. Especially as the last few games have had shots that would play to the strengths I'm pretty sure I have over Jessie. Hmm.

Not that I mind out, it's just not my position. But I'm still having a great time.

Also, Ivan is awesome. For as many times as I've had my leg run into and kicked one way while going the other, there hasn't even been one moment of weird jarring or anything. All is going very well on that front.
