Hot Rod extended his hand, palm out. “Bah-weep-Graaaaagnah wheep ni ni bong,” he intoned solemnly.
“Oh!” A small bipedal golden mech emerged from the scrap pile and awkwardly stood up, his voice exuding surprised delight. “You know the universal greeting! You see R2, they are civilized droids.”
“And you know English,” Arcee replied wryly.
“I am fluent in over six million forms of communication,” the mech replied, “although I am afraid I have never heard of this ‘English’ before.” The smaller cylinder-shaped mech voiced a low warble and the golden one turned and smacked the top of his dome. “How rude! I am an interpreter, you insufferable wretch, don’t tell me how to do my job!”
“Well, I’m Hot Rod, and this is Arcee. And English is one of the languages that the natives of this planet use.”
“I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations. And this is my counterpart, R2-D2.” Threepio executed a quick, shallow bow and R2 trilled a greeting. “I don’t suppose you would know our current distance from Coruscant?” he added hopefully. “We are on a mission of utmost importance, you see.”
