One of the most awesome and dirty :/ weekends of my life!

I went for an early bird ticket and was initially apprehensive about being bored. But as soon as we hit Friday and started seeing acts, it just flew by and then it was over!

So on the Friday, I discovered Frank Turner. It was a name I had heard previously in passing. And I'd treated it with the same sort of contempt I had for Ed Sheeran. You know, one of those supposedly amazing artists that NME kept shoving in people's faces. (To be fair, I don't have anything against Ed Sheeran). I just thought Frank would be this passing phase, a random, temporarily famous singer that would take off then fade.

However, I must say I was blown away! I had never even heard his music. But by the end of his set, his lyrics- his message- had settled in my heart and set it alight with the same passion I had felt upon discovering My Chemical Romance 5 years ago. As a result of Leeds, and the festival friends I meet who recommended him to me, I have now booked tickets to see him in November.

Then me and my friend moved on to watch Panic! At The Disco at the NME tent which again was awesome. I was very impressed how good they are vocally, and it reignited my passion for them! And after Elbow, then Muse. I was so happy that they appeared on the line-up because I had always failed to get tickets for their individual gigs. They definitely lived up to all expectations. The encore of Knights of Cydonia was brilliant, almost orgasmic. I had never before considered that song to be so anthemic.

Saturday! I was introduced to Bring Me The Horizon. They had a reputation. They lived up to it :) One of the cooler crowds of the weekend, despite the mud that covered my left side (and hair :() as a result of crowd surfers.

Then came 30 Seconds to Mars who were awesome, although they would have been perfect if they had played Night of the Hunter for me. Such a bestial, epic song that always captured my imagination. Yet, their set was fun, especially the inflatable dolphins in This is War (?)! So very random.

MCR's set made my life. Everytime I see them they almost move me to tears. It really is quite hard for me to explain their importance and I think this is partly because they pulled me through my teenage years. Although most of the time in which I discovered them is a black empty space in my memory, I remember vividly the hope they gave when I finally, finally got them. And for that I am thankful. Seeing them live always reminds me of the importance of music in life. Gah, I'm getting sentimental. The crowd for them always leaves me feeling included and part of something.

And finally Sunday brought with it the discovery of The Strokes. Also saw Jimmy Eat World live for the very first time and felt left out! Wish I'd made more of an effort to go in knowing more of their stuff. They seemed awesome for the fans :D

So that's the music part :) Other things to note from the weekend were how much I spent :O I kept drunkenly going on rides, marvelling at how I didn't throw up. Also Piccadilly Party was so fun most nights, and I didn't sleep til 5.30 am most days.

Would I do it again? Hell yeah :D

leeds festival, panic! at the disco, muse, my chemical romance, frank turner, the strokes, jimmy eat world, 30 seconds to mars
