The daughter and SIL were on their way to the other side of the state to visit his parents. About 4:30 today I got a phone call from her, and I could tell by the sound of her voice that it wasn't good. They hit a patch of ice and slid off the road. The airbags deployed (and they always wear their seatbelts) but she got bumped about and so did he. Not to mention that they're 200+ miles away from us right now. Fortunately, his brother was also on the way to the parent's house and was able to turn around and pick them up. (At least, he's on his way to do so..I haven't heard yet that he has.) Also, fortunately, they got a sheriff and a tow truck out to them fairly quickly and the car has already been towed and dropped off. We just have to wait to see how bad the damage is and whether or not it can be repaired. But I feel so helpless and we really can't afford to buy a new car if they can't fix the one they were driving. But I have to remember that the last time something like this happened ( the Mr. drowned the Taurus in high water on our street.) we got enough in the settlement to lease a car..the one that slid today..and make the payments for a couple of years. But this is stress that I really, really didn't need right now! *sigh* But I feel a little better for just having put it 'down on paper' so to speak. (Just heard from the daughter again..they slid into a tree. But not at a high enough speed to break any of the home-brewed beer they had in the car. Go figure.)
I finally got the call..they are safe and sound in Ludington. The insurance guy knows where the car got towed to and will have the field agent (or whatever they call them) out to look at it on Monday.
