Actually, I have no dog, but the book title that inspired the subject line above ("Started early, took my dog" which is a novel by Kate Atkinson) fascinates me for some reason. I don't know why, but it just does.
At any rate, I listened to my body for once, and slept in this morning. Of course, since I went to bed at 2:30 am, sleeping until 10:15 really isn't 'sleeping in', it's more like getting the eight or so hours of sleep I really need but don't usually get. But it's thrown me off for the rest of the day, because I usually get up around 9:00 or thereabouts, so I haven't managed to get as much done as I usually do.
We're in the midst of our summer road construction boom here..which means that if you want to go just about anywhere, you're going to have to take a detour...and sometimes the detours have 'detours' of their own. Just another summer in Michigan..the 'Seek alternate route' state. I don't know what our 'state color' is, but it should be 'construction barrel orange' because that's all you see these days. They are in the middle of reconstructing the entrance to the bridge to Canada just to the north of us, which has made us leery of taking the interstate up that way because of the possible traffic backups. The only problem is that virtually every other way to get there is also under construction or being re-paved or re-curbed. Or the detour involves going over a train track that is notorious for delays..long freight trains that just stop while they're still blocking the track and then sit there for 15-20 minutes. And yes, it's against the law, but the law also says the police have to give the ticket to the engineer of the train ! Good luck with that!
Everything is nice and green now...even the 'dead' azaleas are blooming a little. The Mr. replanted them back along the ditch that runs along our property, hoping that they weren't 'really most sincerely dead'...and they weren't. We're getting some new growth along the bottom of the bushes and blooms. Now I hope the the spirea bushes he put in their place in the front do better next spring.
I planted my morning glory seeds and some moonflower seeds yesterday. I've never tried the 'moonflowers' before, it will be interesting to see what comes up. I got some "Sweet Pea" seeds in the mail from someone, I'm going to plant them tomorrow and hope for the best.
Time to go make some dinner and get ready for the last church choir practice of the season. Hope you are all having a wonderful day today!
