how lovely! did you get a kitten or an older cat? have you christened it yet?

It is an older cat, one which used to be owned by a lady who trains animals for TV etc (which is where we got the other one from also).

He already had a name, Sam, so we just left it at that so as not to confuse the little feller.

Phoebe was rather territorial to start with though; whenever he came near, she'd meow, growl and hiss. She's getting more used to him now.

are they tv trained cats then? a super-trained cat, that's what i need! all of ours are disobedient rascals who would try the patience of a saint.

its generally meant to be easier to introduce a kitten but its harder if you both have to work! nice for her to have company though :-)

Phoebe is usually very good. She'll come when you call her, and so on.

Sam is, thus far, a naughty little swine. I came home today to find half a loaf of bread mauled by him; cat teethmarks all over the plastic.

With this pair, though, it's just a case of getting them used to eachother again; they're brother & sister. When we first had Phoebe, Sam stayed with us for a while until she was acclimatised (she really is the archetypical "scaredy cat"), but then went back.

Cats are very hard to train for the kind of work they needed to do, apparently (unlike dogs who'll do exactly what they're told for a scooby snack). Phoebe was never really suitable for any kind of studio work, as the second she'd get to anywhere unfamiliar, with strangers etc, she'd be hiding in the nearest hidey hole.

Sam, on the other hand, would go up to Jack the Ripper and say "meow".

Here be Sam;

they are absolutely gorgeous! that sam does look a bit cheeky indeed :-) just got some photies back today of mystic walking on her hind legs which is quite amusing. sometimes i think cats are so clever and then she will spend a good ten minutes chasing her tail in the washing basket, daft thing. am well overdue a post-up of my cat pictures, will sift through at some stage and show them off!

Yeah, that Sam is *very* cheeky. When I'm eating he'll fuss around and put himself very close to the plate; so now he has to be shut out of the room when I'm noshing. Phoebe never does that.

And walking on hind legs sounds very cool.
