The Marine Research version is many times better. It's quite, quite beautiful.

Laverne's version, although good, just isn't quite the same.

Well, yes, there is that. But then I do adore Lauren as well, though, it's just that in this case MR win. (The best ever cover version EVER is a Kenickie song, though...)

And yes, barring unforeseen circumstances - getting run over by a bus etc - I shall be at the Brixton thingie.

I'm currently debating whether or not wearing the Heavenly t-shirt would be a good idea or not.

Not heard that one.

Best ever cover is Kenickie's version of the Pixies song Letter To Memphis. The difference between the two versions is quite, quite stunning. The original is all heavy guitars etc, while the cover is a Fifties style doo-wop song. Genius!

And, yeah, there is the whole not wanting to be seen as an obsessive anorak thing, wearing the t-shirt and "oh, by the way* I do a fanzine named after one of your songs" etc. I've never actually met them; last November when I saw Tender Trap at the Spitz all dayer thingie, I had a chance to say "g'day", but for some reason a strange fear gripped me, and I just didn't feel I could go up and say "g'day". Odd. Especially when you consider that I once met Lauren Laverne while dressed in the manner of Alex, from A Clockwork Orange.

* - Do you see what I did there?
