Movies out and in the theater

The flights to/from Amsterdam were a great chance to catch up on movies I meant to see in the theaters. Blades of Glory was just as good as I thought it'd be after its outstanding review in my paper of record. I was disappointed by Marie Antoinette - I thought it would be more MTV - and of course I hate depressing stories. I loved loved loved Music and Lyrics and have recommended it to two people since I got back. Still haven't managed to find a Hugh Grant movie that is inarguably not a chick flick though :(

I'd like to declare the kid hero destined to save the world genre overdone now, thx. Before last night movie, we must've sat through three or four trailers in a row of that variety, which was annoying. August Rush looked surprisingly enjoyable, and not just bc Jonathan Rhys Myers is teh hawtness. Didn't quite get the Julie Taymor movie - is it a jukebox movie? And the new Beowulf seems to have a great cast - and a very distancing animation style.

I keep forgetting I missed 2-3 weeks of lj, until I go see Stardust and wonder why no one's raving about it. I enjoyed the book when I read it quickly, but seeing it in pictures was so much more awesome. I get the impression stuff is explained earlier in the movie than the book, but that seemed to work very well. Thought the casting was great and they managed to avoid casting every Brit who has ever been in Hollywood, which gets distracting. Sort of surprised that the chick from Coupling is now playing old hags or that Sienna Miller agreed to play the shallow chick or that Rupert Everett is playing teeny characters. Also, I'd like Tristan's white outfit please.
