Speaking of Lileks,
his comments about having dinner with Mark Steyn reminded me of a funny story. MY parents went to a dinner/book signing with Steyn. My mum's name is the same as the Japanese currency, so when Steyn signed her copy of America Alone, he wrote:
To Yen-
(That's about 17 shillings and 6 pence)
*something pithy related to the book*
Steyn
Isn't that clever? I still turned down my parents' invite to join them at the local AJC benefit on Sunday night though.

Speaking of funny neo-cons, Hitchens has
an interesting article in City Journal about Jefferson and the pirates. It's so odd that this incident has become a bit of a fad right now, with several books out on the topic. Anyhoo, worth a read as it is interesting and not very political. City Journal is yet another publication to which I'm tempted to subscribe, mostly bc of Theodore Dalrymple. Ook, speaking of which, if you haven't taken a look at
my little thought experiment from two weeks ago, do so now. I promise I'll write the punchline later this week, it's just too weighty for a fly-by post.
