It might be that, not having a tv, my taste in movies has been warped by only seeing blockbuster-style "event" movies, which generally involve a fast pace and explosions, or at least epic battle scenes. Or it might be that I'm not an indy documentary kind of gal. Or it might be that the movies were boring. *shrugs*
I've had some very good food this weekend. After the movie Friday night, we wandered out looking for a nibbly. The longtime reader may recall the Asian fetishist lawyer - I'd link to that post if I could find it, but suffice it to say, he was uninteresting but his choice of first date restaurants was brilliant. I've been looking for that place ever since. Turns out it's around the corner from TES, at Great Jones & Bowery. The food is as fantastic as I remember it: I had artichoke hearts with pig product. I wish I'd been hungry so I could have had all the other little nibblies. The sangria seemed to be made out of a more serious red wine than usual, so it required more attention.
Then Saturday morningafternoon, we wandered out looking for food and ended up at a cajun place behind the Museum of Natural History. The service was exemplary and the corncakes were soooo good. I'm not just saying that bc they were drizzled with melted butter. We also ordered the jalapeno cheese grits. The waitress brought a plate with two triangular fried things to us and we had to ask to clarify that it was what we wanted. It was unbelievably good.

On a completely unrelated note, I've discovered that Lileks' podcasts are the perfect accompaniment for my ankle exercises. Given how weak they are, I think he has a duty to make more. Mm-hm. It was so weird to
hear his usual snarkies since I usually read them.
I've decided that the quickest, cheapest pick-me-up on the planet is
Go Fug Yourself. I say this even though they make fun of NK. Take a look at
this classic riff on Britney Spears' taste if you don't believe me.
