First, and most importantly, I just completely spontaneously planned a 48-hour trip to Chicago. In TWO WEEKS.
lillaura lives there, of course, and things have been kind of not-so-good with us recently (looooooooooong story). We weren't really talking for a while, but we've been gingerly talking a bit lately, and today while on Googlechat, she mentioned that she was wanting to see Topol do
Fiddler on the Roof this summer.
Now, Fiddler on the Roof was kind of a giant part of our growing up, although I was not nearly as obsessed as Laura was. We adored it, and we even, at one point, had an entire production planned, starring as many members of our family as we could fit into the cast. Topol, as any musical movie and theatre nerd knows, played Tevye in the movie, and is now doing a limited run in Chicago. When Laura said she wanted to go, I asked if I could come out and stay with her and see it with her. I was sort of half-joking, to protect my feelings if she blew me off, but I really hoped she'd say yes.
Twenty minutes later, I had plane tickets, and we had tickets to the show.
Laura will be in DC with our mom from June 23-26. I will fly into Chicago late on Friday the 26th (like, I arrive at 10:30), we'll hang out on Saturday, see the show Saturday night, and then I fly out of Chicago at 8:35am on Sunday morning.
AND THEN! I have a three hour layover in Minneapolis, at which point I will go to church with my mom!!!
Laura seems to be really excited that I'm coming, and I think it's going to mean a lot to both of us to see this show together. But especially her - she gets to go with someone who really GETS what a big deal this is for her. And I'm thrilled. I would be concerned if she went with someone who hadn't lived in our house from approximately 1989-1995.
And the fact that I get to go to my church, with my mom? Is just the cherry on top.
I was probably not going to see my sister OR be in Minneapolis until Thanksgiving (though my parents are going to be out here at the beginning of August), so this is especially fantastic in that sense. But most importantly, it feels really good to be getting back to normal with Laura. I love her so much, and it was really no fun when we were having issues.
Other Things That Are Awesome!
- I just found out that Atmosphere is playing at Red Rocks in August! Not in a festival or anything, but actually headlining. I have never seen a show at Red Rocks, so this is excellent news.
- Stephen and Cindy and the nephews are going to be here next weekend, and they'll be staying with us. We'll get to hang out with an adorable 4-year-old and 10-month-old all weekend - and, you know, Stephen and Cindy - and we haven't seen them in over a year.
- Our basement bathroom should be totally fixed on Sunday!
- Again, my parents are coming in August for a whole week! YAY!
- AND! TONIGHT we are going to see Rent! With Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, the original Roger and Mark, respectively. As I've turned my husband into a total theatre nerd, he's planning to Stage Door, and keeps reminding me to bring my copy of Anthony's book to get signed. (I ♥ my husband.) I'm a bit of a Renthead, so this is thrilling.
Because of the show, and because I had some extra comp time lying around, I took half a day off work. I used to part of it to get a pedicure, but now I'm running out of time, so I am going to go jump in the shower. I don't have Rent on the old iPod, but I DO have Into The Heights, which will fulfill my singing-in-the-shower needs. Once that's done, I've got the movie all cued up downstairs, and will be ready to rock out.
