In The Book of Prefaces, Alasdair Gray says all literature tries to answer one of four questions:
Who am I?
How did I come here?
What should I do?
Where am I going?
I invite all of you to answer these questions for your persona before reading mine.
Who am I?
A Christian made in God's image.
The daughter of a lady of noble birth and a respectable English merchant.
A bard trained in the Irish tradition.
How did I come here?
From God, who made the world and everyone in it.
What should I do?
Believe and obey the word of God.
Honor the memory of my parents.
Perform my duties to the best of my abilities.
Where am I going?
If I lead a right and proper life, to the Kingdom of Heaven.
